A handicap bathroom is a special room, bathtub and shower complex to provide people with physical challenges, elderly and disabled person the safe and convenient access to the water and toilet. There are special handicap bathroom requirements which are called ADA code. This abbreviation means Americans with Disabilities Act and foresees special design for showers, bath tubs and toilets. Such a bathroom should be spacious enough to let the wheel chair in and out. The chair has to make a 360 degree turn so these bathrooms are never small. The doorway to a handicap bathroom should be minimum 32 inches in its width to let the wheelchair in. All the stuff in the bathroom including shelves, trays, baskets, sink, handles and whatnot should be mounted on the level of a seating position access. It means a person who sits in a wheelchair must easily use any of the units. Grab bars in a must in such a bathroom. The floor should not be slippery, thus special rugs and anti-slippery tiles are used. The handicap bathroom requirements demand making a toilet in the bathroom which height is 17-19 inches. The transfer seat near the toilet is a must as well. Motion sensors are installed very often. The convenient seat (also anti-slippery) has to be installed in the bathroom or in the shower. A slide bar is foreseen for the wallmounted showerheads. A person who can’t take a bath or a shower without a help needs a spacious room as the helper also needs some space. All handicap bathroom ideas foresee the safest and the most convenient access to shower faucets, towels, closets with bathroom facilities. Additional grab bars may be fixed along the bathroom walls. If it is possible the bathroom should be supplied with an alarm button.
