Bathroom is usually the smallest room in the whole house, so it can be tricky to equip it properly. If you have mistaken by even an inch, everything can be ruined: the bath tub won’t fit, the sink is too high, and the tiles form an ugly mess instead of a beautiful pattern… To avoid these problems you’d better be precise in your measurements, but to give you an idea of what to look for – we have gathered standard tub dimensions in one article.

There is no such a thing as a bathtub dimensions standard, but most manufacturers tend to keep up with some regular length and height. What are the standard bathtub dimensions?

First of all, let’s have a look on the most popular alcove bathtub. This is the easiest and, usually, cheapest option for a small and narrow bathroom. A tub surrounded by walls from three sides fits the best to such space. It is usually 4,5 to 6 feet long and 15 to 20 inches wide. Height varies from 15 to 20 inches.

Another popular option, which, though, is now becoming less and less popular, is a whirlpool tub. Standard whirlpool bathtub dimensions can vary also, but the usual rectangular one is 6 feet length, 32 inches width and 18 inches tall. But this type of tub is usually made of acryl, so they come in almost all shapes and sizes.

There are also corner tubs, which can be oval, triangular or square form, but for us only two sides are critical – the ones adjoined to the walls. Usually the standard dimension for a bathtub here is 60×60, with 22 inches height.

Freestanding bathtub dimensions also have some standards, starting from a small 5 feet and up to 7,2 feet. They are usually higher than alcove ones, and can be from 24 to 30 inches, though, of course, it can be customized.

The bathtub surround should be at least 72 inch from the floor. But still, you are free to choose anything you like.

If you are going to buy only shower and save space – go ahead, according to the IRC it should be at least 30×30 inches inside.

So, as you see, there are almost limitless options of tubs dimensions. But when it comes to plumbing, US regulations are quite strict. Standard bathtub drain dimension is 1,5 inches in diameter.

Remember, that from country to country these sizes may differ, though they tend to be similar usually. For example, standard size bathtub Philippines is 5,6 feet long x 30 inches width.
